Still Here and Life Updates
For those still out here, I want to say Hooray! We made it. I've not ventured forth from the house yet, so I don't know about the rest of the world. The trash truck and school bus came by, so at least some folks were lucky with us.
Now time for updates.
As you recall, I was making decisions on going back to school. Well I finally decided. Money was a big factor. Hard to go to school with no tuition funds. They don't really mind you hanging out in the hallways, using the soda and candy machines, but they don't like you sitting inside listening to them without paying for the chair. I guess I could have brought my own chair, but then they'll come up with something different.
As I became a jack of all trades after service, I didn't use any GI Bill funds. Now with the Veterans Retraining programs coming back, I am eligible and got approved. So after all these years, Uncle Sam and you (tax dollars) are finally letting me back into the classroom. I also received approval for student loans (which I pay for). I'm gonna get a degree!!!
I'm going to learn Air Conditioning and Heating. With my background in electronics (missile and communications) I will be able to get a job anywhere I go. I'll be able to get away from Govt. bases and big cities. Maybe pay off the house and get out of debt.
School starts January. Will be in class at 7:30 in the morning. Hadn't been awake and attentive that early in the morning in years. Trying to shift my schedule now. Nodding off at 3 in the afternoon.
Gotta work on that part.
Well before I sign off;
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and anything else you need to say. I hope everyone has a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

The Beginning of The End
Well, what is the world coming to? Pretty bad hearing about the shooting in Connecticut.. Now we're going to hear from all sorts how we need gun control. Why it takes a shooting to get them to talk about this is beyond me.
If it were up to me everyone would be required to serve two years in the service and learn proper gun control. Of course this will never happen.
I also think we should restart the draft. Maybe if some of our fearless leaders had some sons/daughters in the service, they would be a little more likely to keep us out of war.
Of course this won't happen either.
We are doomed.

Cold Day, Another Post. Must Be Christmas
First off, Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah. And Happy Holidays to the rest.
In the 40s now. Was in the 30s this morning. Will hit the 50s today and drop back into the 30s tonight. Now I know most of my followers are tough people who would love to have weather like this. The UV is only a 1. I am almost frozen.
I grew up in N.Ft. Myers Florida. Being from the north side of town got me used to the coldness of winter. Normally it would get to the 40s/50s at night (when you sleep) and back up to the 80s/90s during the day. So now I live in Mississippi (m i crooked letter crooked letter i crooked letter crooked letter i humpback humpback i). This feels like the Great Frozen Tundra. I will surely be glad when the global warming part of the global climate change finds itself back down here.
Enough of the weather.
Sorry I wasn't smart enough to be able to find my way here. When Google stepped in to help make my life easier and more reliable, they somehow forgot to help me make this blog easier and me more reliable. Where the hell did the "drafts" go???
Yesterday was an interesting day. I was summoned for jury duty. I left for the court house early. I got as far as the bottom of my driveway. The car wouldn't go forward. My neighbor came out and help me push it to the side of the road. I'm hoping it's just low on transmission fluid. I've not check it in quite some time, because every time I had checked it before it was good. It was also really cold yesterday so maybe the fluid shrunk. Kinda like other things shrinking in the cold. I will check on it today as the weather warms up.
Took the wife's car and made it to courthouse with plenty of time to get thru security. And then the waiting began. Had to wait 30 minutes to get inside the room. Filled out forms and waited again.
Then the names were drawn. One by one. As the names were called we made up groups of 12. After the first 12 were picked, they were sent back outside. Then the next 12, same thing. An hour later we are back in the room. The judge cautions us about talking about the case and then the questions began.
First one side and then the other. Did we know any of the lawyers? Did our families know any of them. Did we work in a hospital? Did we know anyone who knew anyone who knew anyone that worked in a hospital. Course I knew someone. A lawyer. The wife had worked for him quite a few years back. I didn't hold that against him, and told the judge I would be unbiased. This went on for another couple of hours. Then we were told to leave the room so they could go over the lists and see who they wanted and who they didn't. Another half hour wait. Then back into the room. The judge called a name and the person was to come take a seat in the jury box. One by one. They didn't call another name until that person was fully seated in the box. Why they couldn't call another name while the first person was walking into the box was beyond me. Apparently justice is slow and deliberate. And I saw it first hand. I wasn't wanted. Pity I had quit drinking.
Got home around 6. Goods to see the car was still in the street and no one had hit it.
It makes one realize what is the necessity of doing ones duty. If I were on trial, I would want to make sure there was a level playing field. I saw the two sides. I was bored to be sitting there waiting to be called. But I knew deep down that this was the type of justice I want to have in my life. If I were on trial, I would want someone like me in the jury box. Or at least like me that didn't know one of the lawyers.
It is amazing, that one accepts this duty, as one is given the right to vote. It is a wondrous thing to be able to vote and at least know that, tho you are not changing the world, you are changing one small piece.
A mans livelihood and name is on the line. A families life and future will be determined here. For one vote, I had the chance to determine the outcome. I like that.
Dang this got long. So much more to say. But that will have to wait. Gotta look at the car. Ok, I've got to fix the car. Either that or fix the fuel lines on the van.
Did I tell you it was freezing outside?

I'm In
Wow. This googleplus stuff has been a pain. Lost the dashboard. Found it in Gplus. Under the 'more' option. Wasn't wanting to join the + but didn;t seem to have a way back in. Any of y'all have that problem?
Well things are rolling along. Gonna make it another year. Since I been here last, lots has gone on. Write more about that tomorrow.
I really will!!

OMG Another Post This Year
Hello again, my friends. Hi to the rest of y'all. Long time, no writing.
First off, everything is going ok. No one's dead here yet. Anyone heard differently?
We are trying to get our lives back into some semblance of order. Moved the MIL into an assisted (lots) living condo. Or so we try to make it seem that way. The accommodations are very nice. Even has a marina.
She dislikes it. A lot of it could be that she doesn't do social stuff too well. Don't want to meet anyone new, and now she does. Same folks every day, new to her.
Seems so strange having the house back. Furniture to be moved, refrigerator re-arranged.
Peace and quiet. Able to sleep as long as you want.
So, now I will go. Try to post more, no promises.

Living The Dream
Kinda got behind here.So much to do. So much to read.
So I keep getting behind.
Copied that from an earlier post, so as to get me started. At least I will get in my July post.
Whole bunch of competition out there in Blogville.
We been doing research on different paths of care to see which on will be the most advantageous. Seems like the assisted living is the next big thing. Pity we won't be able to take that route. Looks like we are gonna need something with more 24 hr assist in everything type of care. Makes me wish I was richer instead of better looking.
Got tired of the truck. Rolled it across the scales. Cleaned up the rest of the garage at the same time.
Next up, Brakes on the rear of the Dodge. Sitting in the box for awhile (the brakes, not me) and now I have the room to do it inside.
Got the wife's 04 Mercury out of the shop. Bad fan switch. Can't be letting the better half suffer in this heat. I had power at the motor, so I replaced it. Still didn't work. Two things bad at the same time. It said to pry off the trim and it looked like it was gonna break. I stopped. Saved the trim.
Looking at going back to school and learning a new career. Maybe something easier on the back.
I'll say once again, I'll try to post more often.
See ya later...

Weekend Already
Just a short note to let everyone know that I'm alright.
The past few weeks have been a little different. MIL is sleeping more, And remembering less. Waking up two or three times a might. Not knowing where she is, what she is doing, or even who she is. She is getting around 16 to 18 hours of sleep. Just not continually. Really playing heck on our sleep cycles.
Then Jr. ran away. Our diabetic cat. Hoping someone lured him away. Then they will take him back to a vet when they see him get sickly again. The cat will get scanned for the chip. And he'll be returned to us. And the world will once again be in balance. Don't think that he wondered off and joined the "cycle of nature", but if that's the big plan, then I have to live with it.
Looks to be raining all weekend.
Gotta find stuff to do.
Laundry, half done.
Garage cleaning? Not really started.
Kinda got it messed up last weekend. Pulling tools to help the neighbors out. And when they go back to their "normal' spot they need to be wiped back down, blown off, and/or made to be ready for the next time. Still got a bunch laying on the benches. So far behind.
On the other side of the coin, I got the yard mowed Thursday.
Makes the place fit in as a part of the neighborhood. Normal even.
Be safe.

Happy Tuesday
Kinda got behind here.So much to do. So much to read.
So I keep getting behind.
In other news.
"We look like Mississippi," the North Carolina governor told WITN-TV.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant issued a statement in response to the derogatory remarks about his state made by Perdue: "I am certainly disappointed by Gov. Perdue's statement regarding North Carolina's 'looking like Mississippi.' Apparently, North Carolina's voters are much more in line with Mississippi's traditional values on marriage than those of Gov. Perdue."
Now that was funny.
So now the people in NC want values like the people in MS.
Ms. has good values? We are like 49 and 50th on every thing that happens in the states. And yet the people of NC want to take our place, share our values. Louisiana might not be too happy.
I have friends who are very against same sex marriage. Can't understand why people think they have to judge and regulate other marriages. Will their own marriages will not last? Will religion (Big Box Churches) lose control over marriage? There's money to be made rousing the heathens to fight against Satan and the Forces of Evil.
I believe my marriage is solid. Other marriages don't affect mine. Some folks divorced 3 or 4 times and still think they are good Christians.
That their vows have no meaning is their judgement, not mine.
Good ole USA
If you fall in, don't grab the handle.

Blast From The Past
Hope y'all don't mind another post. But this is a post I couldn't let slide by.
Want to thank Ralph Goff for following the site below,
Want to thank Ralph Goff for following the site below,
Learning to be a Gearhead or Motorhead in 1958....
Now when I went to this site, two items caught my attention. The first
was the McCulloch Kart Promo (with Don Knotts). Always good to see Don.
And then about 3/4 of the way down is a picture of what was once the
Kettering Brothers Husky Service Station. That building sure would make
for a nice home. 2 bays and plenty of room to park.
I enjoyed the photos and the memories this brought back. I hope you do also.

Sunday, Miss., And Crawfish
Bright sunny day today. Started out in the 60s and should top out around 77 or 78.
Will be going to the Crawfish Music Festival today. Well, actually, I'll be going to the Crawfish Cookoff, which is part of the festival. With a 12 dollar tasting ticket, you get the opportunity to taste all of the teams recipes. This ought to fill me up pretty good.
All that's needed now is the corn and potatoes. Usually they are thrown into the boil with the bait, I meant delicacy.
To tell the truth, I grew up in Fla. We fished with shrimp and we ate shrimp. Only after I moved to Miss. did I hear of eating crawfish. They also fish with them, but they remove the claw so that they cant fight the fish. Poor defenseless bait.
Did I tell you they taste good?
About like any other seafood from the same family. The differences in the taste or the differences in the seasonings they boil them in. You can flavor them to taste anyway you want. Just don't forget to purge them before you start, so that they clean themselves out.
Well it's about time to go. Will try to catch the crawfish races too. So exciting. (sarcasm). Next thing you know, they'll make leashes for them to sell as designer pets.
So long for now.

Changes As Life Goes On
Well it's time for another round of looney thoughts and putting them out there. Where-ever that may be.
I say loony thoughts because there are so many out there. Don't take it personally. There not my followers.
Been trying to keep up with this and follow others as much as possible. The new interface on blogger helps in the reading side, but I don't like it as much on the publishing side. Like they said about the Face Book changes, people will get use to them and will like them, given time.
Face Book is changing over to what they call Time-Line. It's a mess (imo). Can't find posts that I post to others' walls. It's bound to run off a few of the folks. Someone posted a workaround to keep the old look, and I tried it and it seems to be working so far. Why can't people leave well enough alone and just work out the bugs.
Well, I have added the Daily Puppy to my sidebar. One more reason to visit this place daily. Still, just trying to figure out what I'm doing and how to work out the bugs.
Had my first week off. Boy, Howdy. What a change. Spent much of the week listing all that needs to be done around here. List a mile long.
Got the yards mowed, and now they are ready to be mowed again. There are times I wish I had concreted the yards and painted them green. A Green Revolution!
Well got to get back to it. See if I can figure out the truck.
Take care everyone.

Dick Clark has passed on.
A lot of us grew up with him. Some of us are still growing up.
He will be missed

Life Everchanging
Well, I've got just two more days at work. I did give two weeks notice and have continued to work overtime to help them out. My back has been acting up, I can't continue to work at the level I like, and I'm tired of taking pain pills on a daily basis.
Gonna fix up the house and garage so when the MIL decides to leave us, we can move to Tenn. or Tn. for the younger crowd out there. Looking to find around 3-10 acres to settle in on. Somewhere around Knoxville. Don't know which side of the city has better property values. Any one out there know the place?
Now for the monthly link. A Chrysler training video for your viewing pleasure.

Happy Easter
Was wanting to do a post about the over commercialization of the Easter holiday. Thought I'd try to find a clip about Linus and his thoughts on Easter.
Instead, I found this. Pretty much sums it all up.
Bunnie Picnic and other TV Specials
He has risen.
It's pretty much all there is to say.

Pretty good day to catch up on things, not to mention getting my March post done.
Tried to catch up on my reading of my followers. Got caught up on one (again) that seemed to make my day. Not so much for the subject matter (interesting), but for the things I learn figuring out what he is saying.

Now I'm fairly knowledgeable about tools, so when he came up with the Froe, I just had to look it up. I had seen one when I was growing up, (like that will really happen) and I had never had a chance to use it. I went and Wiki'd the Fro.
Wiki'd. Hmm. has this word evolved? Digressing Bobby, move on.
This led from one page to another and to make a long story longer, I just had to go back to his blog and see what other tools he could come up with.
And there I found the Spokeshave.

Now I've owned a Studebaker, but not the Conestoga wagon, so I've never had a real need to shave my spokes. I don't know anyone old enough who had ever shaved their spokes, so I figured I needed to learn how to do this also.
Course then I'll have to buy me the wagon.
Furthering my education, (yep, that's what I call it), I found this wonderful video on how to use it.

It is the Song of the Spokeshave. Wow. Words can't do this justice. This 7 minutes of my life was well spent.
Well Gorges, You've done me in again. Thanks for the learning experience.
Bob
ps, I'm still working on publishing links. Gotta figure how to make them say other things. Probably have to copy and paste these.

Thinking and Organizing
Hello again to all of y'all out there. Things are still progressing as usual.
Using some of my time getting my garage a bit more organized. Now I gotta let you know, it takes time to organize a garage. You have to sit out there and look at the stuff, figure out where it should go, figure out that it won't fit. And then figure out another place you can put it. Then you only have to move a few things to squeeze it into the spot, only to realize you now got a few other things that need to be moved to their "Forever Spot". (kinda like a "Forever Home" for pound puppies, but for tools). And then you repeat the cycle over again, knowing you'll get the same result. Lots of sitting and staring into the distance is needed at this point.
I finally cut the tree off of my back fence. It had fallen across a corner, but missed the corner post. New caps and top posts and it will look as good as used. A lot of thinking and staring will be required for this job also.
Well, my head is about empty. Time to head for the garage for more of that work.

Special January Twofer Surprise
Well, It looks like I'll get in two posts instead of one for the month. Wow. Got you excited yet? Yeah, I know. I had you at "Well".
As you know, if your a long time follower, (at least since my last post) I am going to try to post at least once per month.
We are still taking care of the Mother in Law. Don't want to put her in a home. It is getting close. She has Alzheimer's. There's not much hope for a cure to come along at this late date. It's very hard on the wife. The cats don't seem to mind and the dog whines when she firsts wakes up and starts mumbling. But, it's OK. This is the path we were meant to follow.
Maybe I should add some links here. Red Remover - The Game Homepage
It's a fun time waster. As has been said before, the higher the level, the higher the difficulty.
Working on a 87 Ford pickup here. I've had it running a few times. It just doesn't want to start on the fuel that's there. I need to drain the fuel tanks. It's tastes like varnish. So far, I've got it on stands front and rear. Got the battery on the charger. I also need to replace the emergency brake cable. It's got a rust spot on one of the cab corners, so I will get some practice welding. Still working on the planning stages.
Got another engine and transmission if needed. Someone had slipped in a C-6 in place of the over-drive transmission. Still wondering whether or not to swap back to the over-drive unit. Ideas/Suggestions?
Need to get some grocery shopping done. I may do it on the way home from work. There really isn't that bad a crowd at 2 or 3 in the morning. Yes folks, I work nights. It gives me the day free to work on this blog on a daily basis.
Out of writing time now. Gotta get busy around here. Gutters need cleaning, lawn needs raking.
Thanks for stopping by.

Monthly Post
I'm still alive and kicking. I haven't posted in a while (duh) and thought that at least once a month shouldn't be too hard of a goal to achieve.
So this are it!
While traveling the web I found a link (thru Slate) to a 404 error (page not found). While that may not be much in and among itself, this one is a little different. The ones that developed this one, seem to be having a good time.

There's a control panel in the upper right to change the songs.
As always, I hope all is well out there.
Bobby
